Mendoza, Argentina is an absolute must-visit destination for both adventure seekers and wine connoisseurs alike. Nestled at the foot of the breathtaking Andes mountain range, this city boasts stunning landscapes that will leave you awestruck. Known as the heart of Argentina's wine country, Mendoza is lined with vineyards that produce some of the most delicious wines in the world. The region's unique terrain and climate make for perfect conditions to grow grapes, resulting in exquisite Malbecs and Cabernet Sauvignons that are a joy to taste and savor. Because there is only 300-500mm of rain every year, Mendoza uses irrigation canals built by the Incas, before them, to take water from the snow capped mountains to bring this green city to life. In addition to indulging in wine tastings, Mendoza offers a plethora of outdoor activities such as hiking, mountaineering, and skiing during winter months. Whether you're exploring the awe-inspiring Aconcagua Mountain or relaxing in one of Mendoza's rejuvenating hot springs after a day of adventure, this city promises unforgettable experiences that will leave you exhilarated and wanting more.
There are several outer provinces of Mendoza that are quieter, filled with cafes and restaurants. We stayed in Godoy Cruz which was a nice area walkable to the city. This is also an option that I recommend for people who might not be able to sleep with noise going on all night.
MUST DO LIST...
Experience The birthplace of Malbec
Touring Mendoza’s many wineries is first on the list. Situated in the foothills of the majestic Andes Mountains in Argentina, this region is truly a haven for wine enthusiasts. With its high altitude and arid climate, it provides the perfect conditions for grape growing, resulting in exceptional wines. This is one of the reasons Mendoza has over 1300 wineries. The star grape variety found here is Malbec, known for its rich and intense flavors of dark fruits and velvety texture. But Mendoza doesn't limit itself to just Malbec; you'll also find fantastic Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Bonarda wines among others. From small family-owned vineyards to large-scale producers, Mendoza offers a wide range of wineries to explore. So whether you're sipping a glass while admiring the breathtaking vineyard landscapes or enjoying a bottle with a juicy steak at one of the local asados (barbeques), Mendoza wine will undoubtedly leave you with an unforgettable experience that effortlessly blends beauty and flavor.

Olive Groving
Not only is Mendoza famous for its wine but did you know that Mendoza is home to some amazing olive groves? These groves have been around for centuries and produce high-quality olives. The region's climate and soil composition create the perfect conditions for olive trees to thrive. The farmers here take great care of their groves, ensuring that each tree gets the right amount of water and sunlight. This attention to detail results in olives that are bursting with flavor and packed with nutrients. And speaking of nutrients, Mendoza olives are rich in healthy fats, antioxidants, and vitamins – making them an excellent addition to any diet. Oh, did I mention that these olives are used not only for oil production but also for table consumption? That means you can enjoy them as a snack or use them to enhance your favorite dishes. Parillas and Asadas
Now, I am one of the biggest foodies around. My motto is I'll eat anything edible. I have tried the best and the worst of almost everything and when Argentina boasts about their meat, they are not lying. Argentina as a country prides themselves on their Parrilla (steakhouse) where they cook some of the best asados (seasoned meat) in the world. There are two ways you can do this:
#1 Check out my top places to eat in the city of Mendoza:
#2 Take a Cooking Class
One of my favorite ways to experience food, is through a cooking class. There are many different ways you can sign up for cooking classes. A big demonstration, hands on where you cook the food with an instructor or families will host a group of 6-10 people and cook for them which is my top pick for experiences. Either way these classes are definitely worth learning how they cook and season their asadas (meat) so perfectly.
