The Hubris City of Hamburg, Germany

Our visit to Hamburg, Germany was visiting family for three weeks in a town outside of Hamburg called Rahlstedt. That amount of time allowed us to do a lot of sight seeing, eating and experiencing everything we could. Hamburg is one of the larger cities in Germany, renowned for its rich cultural heritage, excellent cuisine, and bustling city life. Hamburg boasts of numerous top things to see that cater to all interests, from modern art museums to historic landmarks and modern architecture. 


Here are our top must sees when in the city of Hamburg. 

Of course, the fist thing you have to visit is The Rathuas. The Rathaus Hamburg is a magnificent building that stands tall in the heart of Hamburg, Germany. It is the city hall of Hamburg and is considered to be an impressive feat of architecture. 

The building was built in the neo-Renaissance style, and its façade is decorated with intricately carved sculptures and reliefs. The Rathaus Hamburg is not only aesthetically pleasing but it also serves as the hub for the important political and administrative affairs of the city. 

The interior of the building is equally impressive with grandiose chambers and halls adorned with beautiful frescoes and paintings. The Rathaus Hamburg is one of the most visited attractions in the city and offers tours that provide visitors with insights into the history and culture of Hamburg.

The Rathuas


The Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg is an architectural masterpiece that serves as a concert hall and cultural center. It was designed by the Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron and opened in January 2017 after 10 years of construction. The building sits on the banks of the Elbe River and features a unique glass facade that reflects the city's skyline. 

The main concert hall has exceptional acoustics, and the venue has hosted performances by world-renowned musicians. The Elbphilharmonie is now an iconic landmark in Hamburg and attracts millions of visitors each year. 

Very Close to this music building is HafenCity, a modern harbor redevelopment area that houses luxurious shops, trendy restaurants, and magnificent architecture. The city's modern architecture can be seen in many of HafenCity's buildings, Also, HafenCity is the perfect spot to go for a stroll, and visitors can take in the vibrant atmosphere, watch the boats coming and going, and soak in the stunning view of the harbor.


Poggenmühlen Bridge

The Poggenmühlen Bridge in Hamburg is a picturesque landmark that dates back to the 19th century. Located in the St. Pauli neighborhood, this historic bridge stands over the Elbe River and offers stunning views of the city. It was constructed in 1842 and is known for its distinctive arch shape and wrought iron railings. 

The bridge has undergone several renovations over the years, but its unique design and historical significance have been maintained. The Poggenmühlen Bridge is a popular tourist attraction and is a highlight of the river canals that run throughout the city.

Hamburg is famous for its historical landmarks, with the most notable being St. Michaelis Church, also known as Michel. This iconic church in Hamburg has been a prominent feature of the city's skyline since its construction in the 17th century. Michel features a historic belfry, which provides an excellent view of the city from the top. There is also a miniature model of Michel on the outside square, which offers visitors a unique perspective of Hamburg's history. 


Elbtunnel (Old Elbe Tunnel) 

The Old Elbe Tunnel is a fascinating infrastructure situated beneath the Elbe River. The tunnel runs from St. Pauli landing bridges to Steinwerder, connecting the two sides of the river. The tunnel was constructed in 1911 to reduce the traffic congestion and provide transportation for people on the opposite sides of Hamburg. 

In 2001, the Elbtunnel was named as a protected heritage monument and is considered one of Hamburg's famous landmarks, attracting visitors from all around the world. The tunnel's interior has a remarkable arch structure and charming illuminated walls, providing a unique experience for commuters. Elbtunnel Hamburg is a symbol of the city's modernization and engineering prowess and will continue to be an iconic landmark for generations to come.

Not only does hamburg have many beautiful historical landmarks and interesting sights, Hamburg is home to some of the best cuisines.

 

St. Pauli, situated in the heart of Hamburg, is a hub of eclectic experiences. Known for its nightlife and entertainment, the district offers some of the best options of the city. 

One of the most popular destinations is the Reeperbahn, Germany's red light district. For something a little different, visit the St. Pauli Theater, one of the oldest theatres in Hamburg, a great house of German expressionism. The Millerntor Stadium, home of FC St. Pauli, is a must-visit for every football enthusiast. 

The district is also famous for its street art and graffiti, along with many music venues and bars, such as Zur Ritze and Molotow. 

If you are looking for great brewery with tons of beer options and tasty food you must visit Uberquell. Uberquell Hamburg is a craft brewery and beer garden located in Hamburg, Germany. It is known for its traditional and innovative styles of beer, which are created with only the finest ingredients. 

The brewery has a large indoor and outdoor area, which is perfect for beer enthusiasts and those who want to enjoy a good pint in a relaxed environment. The location is also popular for hosting various events throughout the year, including concerts and cultural festivals. Overall, Uberquell Hamburg is an excellent choice for anyone intrested in unique, flavorful beers, and a fun atmosphere.


The best way to visit St Pauli is to walk through the city take in the eclectic culture, stop by a kiosk grab, drinks and snack, find a spot in the many parks around and sit, eat, drink and play games. When you get hungry, walk down the streets, take in the sights, sounds, and flavors of St. Pauli, and experience the vibrancy of one of Hamburg's liveliest neighborhoods.
