Munich, Germany, is a vibrant and culturally diverse city located in the southern part of the country. As the capital of Bavaria, it boasts a rich history, breathtaking architecture, and an array of world-class museums and galleries. Known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration, Munich is a true gem for beer enthusiasts around the globe. Beyond its traditional charm, the city is also a major economic hub, home to renowned companies in the automotive, technology, and finance sectors. With its stunning parks, picturesque riverside views, and an excellent public transportation system, Munich offers a high quality of life for its residents, making it an ideal place for students, professionals, and travelers alike to explore and experience the best of Germany. I enjoy my time in Munich every-time and always find something new to discover.

Places To Visit

One of the top things to do in Munich is to visit the Marienplatz, the city's central square. Here you will get to see tons of landmarks telling Germany's interesting past. The main attraction in the square is the Glockenspiel, a massive tower clock that displays music and a show on the hour, every hour. People gather to watch the Glockenspiel's entertainment through out the day.

Another must-see attraction is the Neuschwanstein Castle, located just outside of Munich. This fairy-tale-like castle was built by King Ludwig II and is believed to have inspired the castle in the classic Disney movie, Sleeping Beauty. Visitors can take a guided tour of the castle and explore the surrounding scenic countryside. Additionally, the English Garden is a sprawling park in Munich's city center where locals and visitors alike can relax, have a picnic, or even surf on the river's artificial wave. These are other affordable options if you don't wan to pay for a tour.

Finally, if you are a beer lover, visiting the Hofbräuhaus is an absolute must. This world-renowned beer hall has been serving up local Bavarian beers since the 16th century and is a central part of Munich's beer culture. Visitors can enjoy a pint of beer, live music, and traditional Bavarian cuisine like meat and pretzels. This Brewery is one of the largest and well known brewery's in Germany and offers tours daily in summer.

Overall, Munich offers an abundance of cultural, historic, and entertaining attractions, making it a destination that should be on every traveler's bucket list, our recommendation is to spend around two day here as the sights are easy and quick and there is not a lot of travel time needed between to see all of the main attractions. We did all of these things on foot!

But if you visit Munich spend time walking around downtown and around any of the parks. There is not open container laws so a fun thing to do is grab a cold drink and walk around the park!

Places to Eat

#1 Görreshof Wirtshaus

This is a traditional pub and is one of the oldest in the city. It's menu consist of classic german staple dishes with an elevated twist. Some of my absolute favorites are the roast pork with crispy cracklings; the sausage salad with red onion and gherkins; or the Münchner schnitzel with a horseradish and mustard crust. Even if you’re not hungry, it’s worth popping in for a beer or two; the staff regularly taps the Augustiner straight from a wooden barrel so every beer is fresh. The atmosphere is very lively and the staff there is a lot of fun!

#2 Wirtshaus Eder

This place makes its name through its incredible beer selection including Tilmans Biere and Hopfenhäcker Brauerei and offers an ever-changing selection on tap and in bottles. You’ll also find single-malt whiskey Slyrs, which is distilled in the Alpine foothills. Not only that but they have amazing dishes that pair nicely, from meetballs to the traditional goulash there is something for everyone here.

#3 Café Frischhut

Okay so hear me out, this cafe in the middle of downtown is touristy but its charm and delicious hand cfated style makes up for it. Its pastries are amazing for any time of day! The mixture of people grabbing breakfast before an early shift at work, and ones sipping on a relaxing coffee to people sobering up on a schmalznudel, Bavaria’s version of a doughnut. This is a real cultural experience going to this little cafe.
